Fairview Avenue Green Street Design, Parking & Traffic

The City of Seattle allows certain neighborhood streets with unique characteristics to be designated as Green Streets, meaning they can apply for design variations from the City’s standard street specifications in order to provide public amenities and better pedestrian/vehicle safety. In response to a request by the Eastlake Community Council (ECC) Fairview Avenue East between Hamlin and Fuhrman has been designated a Type III Green Street.

As part of its development, Wards Cove is designing and implementing the portion of the Fairview Green Street that runs through their property. These illustrations show some of the Green Street features, such as:
  1. Removing buildings and opening several new view corridors of Lake Union
  2. Providing new public access to the shore of Lake Union
  3. Shoreline mitigation and salmon habitat protection
  4. Introducing a traffic calming curve into Fairview Avenue
  5. A new walking path with landscaping along the shoreline of Lake Union
  6. A new meandering sidewalk with landscaping on the east side of Fairview
  7. Replacing non-native invasive vegetation with low maintenance native plants
  8. Eco swales that capture and filter rainwater run off before it gets to Lake Union
  9. New street lighting fixtures designed for better visibility
  10. A new parking plan with both private off-street  and public on-street parking.
